Fall 2018 College Tour

The Toronto Fastpitch Club 19U squad will travel September 26, 27 and 28th to play international exhibition games against University of New Haven, Adelphi University and Kutztown University. The TFC will kick off their fall tour playing UNH (DII- NE10) complete with a tour of the university. Unfortunately, 2016’s scheduled games were rained out so the squad is  eagerly anticipating their first games at New Haven Softball Field. Assistant Coach Leah McIntosh was coached by TFC Head Coach Alan Spohn, and she was the pitching half of a threatening defensive duo with Asst. Coach Robyn Draper.

From West Haven, CT., the team will drive to Garden City, N.Y.  for a DH against the Panthers at Janet L. Ficke Field. Playing Adelphi this year will be a bittersweet moment for the players and staff, as TFC Senior pitcher Kristin Fealy enters her own senior year with the Panthers. Fealy is a program favourite with the younger squad. TFC CF Molly Edge (2019) committed this month to attend Adelphi (DII- NE10) next fall, and it will be a special moment in program history as they take the field against each other one last time with Kristin in a Panther uniform.

After filling up on huge and delicious sandwiches at the Adelphi Deli, TFC will travel to Kutztown University (DII-PSAC) in Pennsylvania for a DH against long time friends the Golden Bears. TFC Seniors Erin Fortney and Morgan Mather take the field at Kutztown for their own senior years, as well. There will be plenty of hugs, laughs, tears and ice cream as we bid them farewell as they embark on their final year of college softball. The TFC program has plenty to celebrate during this trip, and it’s a privilege to get to watch our college and high school players battle in friendlies on the field.

To mark this celebration, and with timing clearly on our side, the team will stop at Binghamton University Softball Field on the drive home to watch Midget 19U team graduate Nicole Rivait suit up as a freshman for Bucknell University versus the Bearcats.

Fall 2018 is an exciting time for the program, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the girls battle under pressure. The role models and experiences that they’re exposed to serve them well into the future with whatever endeavours they chose to follow. These trips are a unique experience for international players, and we’re very fortunate to have these strong ties with long-standing and respected softball programs through-out the United States and Canada.

Nicole Rivait Commits to Bucknell University

Nicole SIgningJoining the Toronto Fastpitch Club 19U squad in September, stand-out Junior National Team player, Team Ontario, and current National Team Pool member Nicole Rivait will cap off an incredibly successful softball career by attending Bucknell University next fall playing for Head Coach Joey Lye (member of the Canadian National Team). Joining Nicole at Bucknell University in this 2018 recruitment class is fellow Canadian National Team Pool member Allyse Volpe.

“I’ve been preparing for college through my training with the National Team. I think it is a really good starting point for the competitive and high-intensity training I’m going to receive at school. It also helps prep me for balancing my training and school work. I’m most excited to train under Coach Lye in the fall and play with my new team mates whom I’ve grown very fond of. They work incredibly hard and hold each other accountable which I love. I am extremely excited to attend Bucknell University in the fall.” – Nicole Rivait

Although new to our squad, Nicole settled in and immediately impacted the TFC as a leader as we faced Kutztown University (DII), Adelphi University (DII) and top American powerhouse programs in Ohio and Florida during our fall tour. Nicole is in good TFC company on the 2018 Women’s National Team Athlete Pool with program team mates Amanda Janes (Simon Fraser University) and Sierra Bertrand (Niagara University).

“I really think that playing for the TFC opened a lot of doors for me in terms of recruiting and understanding the process. Without the help of my coaches, Al and Lauren, I don’t think I would be in such a good place right now. My team mates on the TFC have allowed me to grow as a player and as a person providing a fun environment with a great amount of accountability to succeed at a high level”. – Nicole Rivait

With Bucknell on her mind all fall, Nicole channeled her nerves into working out tirelessly with her new teammates. As a leader and role model, Nicole stepped right up leaving a valuable impression on her teammates.

“I love playing alongside Nicole. She is a great team mate and a great athlete, but most of all, she is a great mentor. I have already learned so much from her and can’t wait to learn so much more!”- Becky Hodder, 2019 Catcher/Utility

“Playing with Nicole is an absolute pleasure! She’s that one player that always brings out the best side of your game. I’m always trying to raise my game to her level, and the best part is that she always wants to help me get there.” – Molly Edge 2019, Middle Infield

As the stress of college applications and official visits are behind her, Nicole has a new challenge she’s happy to embrace: to grow and develop within our program as well as under the National Team development protocol to be ready for college ball in tip top physical and mental shape.

September 2nd, 2017: Bantam Toronto Fastpitch Club spent the Labour Day weekend battling for gold at the CNE!

In a well-played game against the Vaughan Vikings, Toronto came out on top winning 7-0 after a 5 game marathon. The CNE tournament is a very rewarding experience for all players, and we’d like to send out a huge thank you to tournament volunteers & Donna McGraw for all their hard work leading up to the event. Our Bantams have their final try-out set for this Saturday @ 9am at Paul Coffey Park in Mississauga. Hope to see you there!
